Heidi teaching in the studio at Clarkton Farm About Heidi

Hi, I’m Heidi

Hi, I’m Heidi - a yoga teacher, mum to two semi-grown-up kids, lover of good coffee and someone who is always experimenting with a new plant-based meal or nutrition idea.

I’ve been practising yoga for over 25 years and, having my own ongoing lower back problems, I know first-hand how much yoga can help keep your body moving and feeling good. My kids and Husband are regularly used as guinea pigs for new classes and ideas, and my favourite way to start the day is with a coffee by the river.

I teach from my little studio at Clarkton Farm in Doune, and also at the lovely DDYP hall in Moray Park, Doune where classes occasionally come with an unexpected soundtrack from the birds or a curious sheep outside!

I’m a qualified 200-hour seasonal yoga teacher and I love making yoga feel approachable, practical and relevant to real life and the seasons. You don’t need to be flexible, you don’t need fancy leggings and you certainly don’t need to take yourself too seriously - bring your Mars Bar if you want, you won’t be judged - unless you only have one!

Just turn up, come as you are, move, breathe, have a laugh and hopefully leave feeling a little better than when you arrived.

What is seasonal yoga?

Seasonal Yoga & Qi Gong

01

Moving with the seasons

I love bringing the changing seasons into my yoga practice. Seasonal yoga is about noticing what’s happening around us and allowing our practice to change with it - from the energy and longer days of spring and summer to the slower, quieter feeling of autumn and winter.

Rather than doing exactly the same practice all year round, I use different movements, breathwork, meditation and themes to reflect the season. Sometimes it might be more energising and warming, and sometimes it might be slower, grounding and restorative.

It’s simply about listening to what your body and mind might need at that particular time of year.

A little Qi Gong

I also weave Qi Gong into some of my classes. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese practice combining gentle movement, breathing and focused awareness. The movements are generally slow, flowing and accessible, making them a lovely way to warm up the body, settle the mind and bring your attention into the present moment.

For me, it fits beautifully alongside yoga - particularly seasonal yoga - because both encourage us to slow down, connect with our breath and become more aware of how we feel.
